Lake Charles, LA, October 9, 2026 — The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has initiated a new program aimed at developing leadership skills among its senior ranks. The inaugural session of the Leadership Program was recently held, bringing together deputies who hold the rank of lieutenant and above.
The program’s first event featured a distinguished panel designed to provide a masterclass on the principles of effective leadership. Among the featured speakers were retired LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri and several military leaders. These individuals shared their insights and experiences with the attending deputies.
A central theme emphasized during the session was the nature of leadership itself. The panelists collectively stressed that leadership is not an inherent trait but rather a skill developed through concerted effort and a strong sense of character. This perspective suggests that leadership qualities can be cultivated and refined through deliberate practice and personal development.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has not provided further details regarding the frequency of future sessions or the specific curriculum beyond this initial masterclass. The program’s objective is to enhance the leadership capabilities within the department’s command structure.
